What State Has Highest Radon Levels?

Radon levels vary significantly across different locations within one state; however, some states tend to have higher average levels than others according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US; specifically the upper Midwest and mountain states tend to have some of the highest radon levels.

Iowa, North Dakota, Illinois, Idaho, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Colorado have the highest average radon levels. However, levels can differ considerably within each state and even be found at levels untypical of such concentrations.

No matter where you reside, all homes should be tested for radon. Testing can be conducted either using a do-it-yourself kit or hiring a professional to do the test. If high levels are detected, steps should be taken immediately to mitigate them to protect both yourself and your family’s health.
